Hi everyone. I am 18 weeks pregnant with my first %26amp; there are SO many products out there, different brands, etc. Do any of you out there know of a website or some sort of resource which will have a checklist of everything you need for a new baby %26amp; which products are rated the best? Thank you :)First time mother-to-be needs advice about baby products?
I know what you are going through it is overwhelming so many things. I’m a mother of a 3 months old baby girl. I looked around in the internet and compared a lot of checklists, same are so long oh no. I think one of the best is Wal-Mart because it has the important things for baby 0-3 months checklist.

And later when the baby is born you can check the 4-12 months checklist. The only thing I would buy for 4-6 months right away is some cloths or better put it on your baby registry when you have one.
What I also like at walmart.com is the costumer reviews. So you can see how the products are, not from some company, no from real people who use it.
What I really recommend to get is a baby swing, a bouncer chair and a baby gym. This will be enough for the first couple months. I used the baby swing in the first 2 months everyday. The bouncer chair is good when you go somewhere so that the baby is not always lying on the floor. It is light und easy to take with for example to you parents or parents in law. Also I like to use it at home when I’m in the kitchen. So the little one is not is with me and is not on the floor. The one I have is “Fisher Price - Rainforest Bouncer” you can easily detach the front part so that you have only the chair.

The baby gym is good so that the baby is entertain while you have to do other things at home and it is not only in is crib/basinet. I have the “Fisher Price - Rainforest Melodies %26amp; Lights Gym” my girl really likes the mirror, the butterflies and the rattle on it. Also she enjoys the lights and music on it.

The baby swing I have is ';Fisher Price - Baby Papasan Cradle Swing, Nature's Touch'; I'm very happy with it. I really like it that it swings two ways and more important my baby loves it.

For strollers I would go with a travel system where you have a stroller and baby car seat. This car seat is enough for a while, later when the baby is bigger you can get another one for older babies and toddlers.
One more thing receiving blankets get the oversize ones not the regular size they are too small. My baby girl likes still go get wrapped in the receiving blanket and the regular would be already to small after a weeks, the oversize is still big enough to wrap her into.First time mother-to-be needs advice about baby products?
I would suggest you read the Baby Bargains book as well.
Also, beware! A large majority of baby products are completely unnecessary. Companies focus on parents of babies because they know every parent wants only the best for their new little child so they make it seem as though what they are offering is something you cannot live without. However, because babies grow and change so very quickly, most products are used only a few short months or even weeks and then are no longer useful to the parent . Babies NEED love, and a few basic necessities are necessary (clothes, diapers and something to hold them when your arms can't - a carrier, sling, stroller, etc.), but not a lot more. Most parents end up with 10-15 products to ';hold'; their child when they can't (swing, Bumbo seat, bouncy seat, exersaucer, etc.), when really 1 or 2 would suffice!
So think carefully before you spend your money about whether it is something you need or something that will only be around a short while! Just my two cents!
I had the best luck at Babies R Us. They have a new parent check list on their web site that will tell you exactally what you need. I was in the same position as you are. ( I have a 4 month old and am a 1st time mom.) Babies R Us also has a rating system on all of their products so that way when you find something that you like, you can read what other parents have to say about it and the pros/cons. Just go to www.babiesrus.com and it will take you right to it. It is a very easy website to shop around on. I think I got almost everything from there for my daughter (even down to her bedroom furniture) and everything is great!! Good luck. Also Target has some great baby products too!!!
If I can make a recommendation to you, I would suggest that you look into Graco products for your car seat, stroller, pack n' play, swing, high chair, etc. They have great ratings!!!! They have travel systems (stroller, car seat and base combo) and they are amazing!!! I love mine and to sit the carseat in your car, it easily snaps into the base that stays in the car and it is very easy to get the car seat in and out!!! Just a suggestion...
All of the choices can be overwhelming, I know! There's a New Parents Checklist at BabiesrUs that can be very helpful.

It breaks everything down by category, but as for what exactly to choose in each category (for example, which type of baby carrier) that is up to the parent. If there are reviews for the products, you can read them there as well.
Amazon also has lots of reviews for baby products.
here is a good website to look at for some things:

you will want bottles that are BPA free. (glass is best in my opinion) plastics have a lot of chemicals that get released when heated up
Ask moms what there biggest REGRET was in all of their purchases too..
for me it was our stroller/travel system. i got a really nice expensive one.. buuuut it hardly fits in my impala's trunk! (which is HUGE) and i got a car seat that can hold a baby up to 30 pounds, the usual is like 20 or 21 pounds.. i thought it would be good for a lot of reasons, but it's bigger than other car seats and a LOT heavier.. i hate lugging it around..
AND i really want a jogging stroller but after i got our stroller.. i saw they make jogging travel systems (matching car seat) and i would have rather done that.. then spend all this money on a stroller when i really just want a jogging stroller (jogging strollers are nice even just for walks and regular activities)
Agree with the post re: Toys R Us. You can also check out the following:

They have a whole set of checklists that may be helpful:

Specifically for the nursery check out:

Congrats and have fun shopping!
Some of it is just preferences of the mother. I had a lot of things for my first and with my second realized that you do not need all the things like wipe warmer etc. Its just which extra comforts you want and can afford.
There is a book I would recommend called ';Baby Bargains'; Lots of great info and ratings on different products.
