I'm really freaking out, i love science and all. But i'm really freaked out. As u can see its late about 11CST and i cant sleep! Please help me understand the chances of its true power and the hypoth of it creating a black hole.Anyone have any advice to calm me down about the Large Hadron Collider?
Calm down. You can check the status of the Earth in accordance to the LHC here:

The world's largest particle accelerator (the LHC - which stands for Large Hadron Collider, and it's located in tunnels underground in Switzerland) is going to be turned on tomorrow. However, the first collisions won't happen for another month or so.
No, the world will not end. Even if collisions from the LHC produced black holes, they would be microscopic and would not destroy the earth for the following two reasons:
1. Theory - Hawking himself recognized that black holes radiate. Given the energy available in the LHC, if a black hole was created it would necessarily be a very small one - a micro black hole - the energy available in the collision of two LHC protons is not a lot on a cosmological scale. The black hole would evaporate almost immediately into a shower of particles.
2. Cosmic rays - Extremely high energy particles (orders of magnitude above the LHC) coming from outer space are incident on upper atmosphere where they collide with the nuclei of gas molecules. We see the showers resulting from these collisions at sea level. This is appears to be safe, so we can be confident that the LHC will be.
Now, you might wonder what the LHC is doing in the first place, so here's a brief summary:
The machine is designed to collide very fast moving particles and then examine the debris from the collision. Scientists are hoping to search for signatures of supersymmetry, dark matter and the origins of mass.
The experiments鈥?detectors will watch carefully as the energy of colliding protons transforms fleetingly into a plethora of exotic particles.
The detectors could see up to 600 million collision events per second, with the experiments scouring the data for signs of extremely rare events such as the creation of the much-sought Higgs boson.
You really need to take a pill.
TheLHC is not capable of doing anything that doesn't happen daily all over the earth, as cosmic rays far more powerful than the LHC is capable of passing through the earth every second.
It cannot end the earth, it will not end the earth. Stop listening to idiots on the news channels or the internet, and get some sleep.
Many people will be in fact die indirectly due to the LHC, killed tomorrow in traffic accidents caused by sleep deprived people who spent the night up worrying about nothing.
Lol! No! It won't be the end of the world. The black holes if any would be too tiny, they just evaporate. Even if one goes inside the Earth,it would be so tiny it would take a long, long, time to eat 1 atom. It would take thousands of years even longer before it got big enough. So,what are you worried about? Instead ask,'; will the end of the world be in thousands of yrs due to a black hole';? You know, almost everyone's answer would be, ';No';.
In the time it took you to write this, nature has performed the LHC experiment at 1000 times the LHC energy about 100 times in the upper atmosphere, and no black holes have eaten the Earth tonight.
Listen, its 1220EST here. I am staying up til 3am (When the Machine Starts Up).... that way I dont spend my last few hours on Earth asleep
